Cello Concerto No. 9 in B-flat major, G. 482
by Luigi Boccherini
Long known in Grützmacher's heavily rearranged edition, this concerto has been restored to its original form by modern scholarship. Boccherini, himself a virtuoso cellist, wrote with an intimate knowledge of the instrument. The Adagio non troppo is notable for its operatic cantabile, and the finale sparkles with wit and rhythmic drive.
