Flute Sonata in B minor, BWV 1030
by Johann Sebastian Bach
The grandest of Bach's flute sonatas and one of the finest chamber works for the instrument. Cast in three movements, it is a true duo sonata where the flute and harpsichord (or piano) engage as equals. The opening Andante unfolds as an expansive dialogue, the central movement features contrasting dance rhythms, and the Presto finale is a brilliant gigue-like tour de force.
