Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor BWV 1011
cellobaroquesuite~27 minvirtuoso
The fifth suite requires scordatura tuning (the A string lowered to G), giving the instrument a darker, veiled sonority. The Prélude opens with a grave French overture before launching into an elaborate fugue. The Sarabande, built from stark single notes and double stops, is one of Bach's most profound slow movements.
